What is vitamin C?
Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble essential nutrient found in almost all fruits and vegetables, in varying degrees, but especially in citrus fruits, red capsicums, and strawberries. Additionally, Vitamin C cannot be stored and is not naturally produced by the human body so it must be sourced externally; that is, from our diet or through supplementation.
Furthermore, vitamin C is an antioxidant and redox agent that is thought to have a very wide spectrum of health benefits, and possibly also in cardiovascular diseases and against some cancers (although the latter is thought to be controversial and receives very varying degrees of support). The recommended daily amount for vitamin C in adult males is 90 mg and in adult females is 75 mg. It should also be noted that when we boil fruits and vegetables, we significantly reduce the levels of vitamin C that they contain.
What is a vitamin C IV Drip used for?
Vitamin C is one of the most important essential nutrients that our bodies need to sustain optimal biological processes. Research has indicated that vitamin C may:
- Help to support health skin, bones and connective tissue
- Help wounds heal faster
- Prevent infections
- Improve immune function including reducing the length of infection and physical symptoms
- Improve iron absorption
- Be a powerful antioxidant which can help to protect your cells against the effects of free radicals
Studies have shown that high doses of vitamin C may significantly improve immune function to reduce the inflammation, pathogen infectiveness and virulence. Vitamin C also plays and important role in helping to support healthy skin, bones and connective tissue as well as supporting other nutrient absorption such as Iron.
Why should I consider having a vitamin C IV Drip?
A vitamin C IV drip may help those that are vitamin C deficient or those looking to increase their vitamin C intake. Those who consume a ‘healthy and varied’ diet, do not typically have issues with vitamin C deficiency, the normal level in the body being around 1.5 g. Because vitamin C is not produced in the body and cannot be stored, a healthy and varied diet is necessary to ensure adequate levels are maintained.
Furthermore, it is widely known that vitamin C supports healthy cellular processes of the immune system and that low levels lead to impaired immunity. Impaired immunity leads to a higher susceptibility to infections, especially to respiratory tract viruses such as the flu.
So, why not take advantage of one of our IV drips, especially during these stressful times! Studies have shown that stress can adversely affect your overall health and wellbeing. Refresh and renew yourself with one of our exclusive IV Vitamin C Infusions.Book online or call us (1300 DAZZLE)!
What is vitamin C deficiency?
Vitamin C deficiency can lead to scurvy which is a state when the total level is chronically below 350 mg. Early signs of scurvy may include fatigue, generalised aches, irritability of mood, malaise, widespread bleeding (gingivitis, petechiae, etc.), and slow wound-healing (vitamin C is critical for collagen-production – required for healthy skin, bone, cartilage, blood vessels, etc.).
Who is at risk of vitamin C deficiency and who can benefit from vitamin C IV Drips?
People who are at risk of vitamin C deficiency may include alcoholics, heavy smokers, pregnant and lactating women, and those with a disease affecting the small bowel, such as coeliac and Crohn’s. Some authorities believe that those with asthma, thyrotoxicosis, or type 1 diabetes mellitus, may benefit from supplementation of vitamin C.
Frequently Asked Questions
Because your body doesn’t produce or store vitamin C, it is important to ensure that it is included as part of your regular diet. The recommended daily amount of vitamin C is 65 to 90 milligrams (mg) with an upper limit of 2,000 mg a day. Too much vitamin C is unlikely to be harmful, however, megadoses of vitamin C supplements may cause vomiting, nausea and diarrhea.
That is why it is important to have your vitamin C IV drip treatment administered at a reputable clinic where there is a doctor on standby to assist you in the rare event of a complication. Additionally, Ignite Medispa administers the right dosage amounts to minimise the chance of a vitamin C overdose.
Toxicity from vitamin C is thought to result from ‘chronic’ intake of 2 g per day, but this level has not been definitively determined.Toxicity may cause kidney stones, dental calcification, and diarrhoea. Those who have a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase should seek expert medical advice before taking vitamin C supplements, due to a risk of haemolysis (the rupture of red blood cells).Other considerations include the interaction between high levels of vitamin C and some medications, such as warfarin, statins, and some drugs as part of HIV treatment (such as protease inhibitors).
Vitamin C IV drips are a relatively safe therapy, especially when administered in an equipped medical environment and where there is a practising doctor available. As mentioned before, megadoses of vitamin C may cause vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. However, our dosage amounts are specifically designed to be a safe and reasonable dosage for all adults.
Whilst nothing in the medical world can be guaranteed because we are all so unique, our professional paramedical staff and doctors will be able to assist you with your treatment. Your safety is our number one priority. Additionally, we boast a state-of-the-art facility that is fully equipped to handle all medical emergencies, and we are located inside a private hospital.
At Ignite Medispa®, we offer supplementation with intravenous vitamin C as part of our different NewCell® packages starting from just $349. Additionally, our exclusive NewCell® Packages are loaded with other essential nutrients including vitamin B complex, Calcium and Potassium.

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that does work to improve your immune function and supports healthy skin, bones, connective tissue and other biological processes. If you are vitamin C deficient, then a vitamin C IV Drip may work for you.
